A proposed chart for Canada
At the 1st of July 1867, with the passing of the Constitutional Act, three separate colonies of Canada, Nova scotia and New Brunswick were united into a single Dominion under the rule of the British Empire. The 1st of July was named Dominion day, which was later renamed to 'Canada day'. This is commonly referred to as Canada's birthday. It is not quite like other countries which are declared by an event of independence, but to describe that event more accurately, it served as an important milestone in long process that would eventually result in a sovereign independent country. As of 1867, Canada became a kingdom of its own right, within the United Kindgom.
Astrologers have usually used the chart for the 1st of July 1867, Ottawa, Ontario. Another possible candidate would be a chart set for Canada act 1982. I have seen most charts set for 00:00. According to "The Canadian Astrology Collection" by John McKay-Clements, published in 1998, the 12:00 midnight time is used because "legal instruments in Canada usually take effect at 00:00 hours on the inception date". Another possibility is a chart set for 12:05. This time is based on an eyewitness account of the official announcement. Chart background info from https://www.astrologyweekly.com/countries/canada.php.
I listed events of Canadian history along with their corresponding astrological influences, while limiting myself mostly to 2nd harmonic aspects with 1 degree orbs. The predictive techniques I chose were transits, secondary progressions and tertiary progressions. I noticed that in some events there is a lag, and prominent aspects align few days before the date of the Constitutional Act. I set the chart to 27 June 1867, 12:30PM, Ottawa, 45N25, 75W42.
I believe the chart fits because of high incidence of aspects involving the secondary progressed and tertiary progressed moon. Also, Libra ascendant fits Canada better than the Aries ascendant because its ruler is in Gemini, a double bodied sign, which fits Canada's inherent dual French-English identity.
Following themes were noticed:
-
The Quebec Sovereignty issue is brought up when Mercury and Mars aspects are active. It's possible that the Quebecois identity is represented by Mercury in the chart.
-
Natal Mars is involved in any type of crisis.
-
Territorial expansion and integration of new provinces shows itself in many different forms, with no fixed pattern.
